Welcome to our Corner of History

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the abandoned. My earliest memory of this was passing the former Storyland along Route 30. I envisioned what it once was and imagined the stories it could tell.

This desire to uncover stories of the past has followed me into adulthood. I am always looking at what things used to be, what secrets they hold, and who were the people who once were the people who once were a part of it.

I began photographing some of these places. Unfortunately, some such as the Ship Hotel, Swiss Chalet, and Kings & Queens Restaurant are no longer with us, leaving us only with photos and memories. Other places, such as Carrie Furnace and Yellow Dog Village, though in states of decay remain as a reminder of the people that once lived and worked there.

Here in Southwestern Pennsylvania we have so many stories to tell. Not only is the area rich in stories about industry, coke, and steel; but it also has a deep roots in the French and Indian War (George Washington really did sleep here!) and the roots of rebellion with the Pennsylvania farmers and the Whiskey Rebellion.

Here at Third Stop on the Right, you will find the history of and stories of Western Pennsylvania; local legends and lore; and places that are gone but not forgotten.

It's not just about the stories of people and places, but it's also the objects. In conjunction with Third Stop on the Right, Brad and I also own an antique business, Third Stop Vintage. Third Stop Vintage aims to give a fuller picture of the people and places that have shaped our country.
