White letters spelling out WASH and DRY on a blue countertop with white cabinetsMy son loves his special blanket, which he calls his “gee.” He takes this blanket everywhere with him: to bed, in the car, all over the house, and even to Nana’s house. With all the love that this blanket gets, it also gets quite dirty!

Since this blanket is something that my son loves so much, I take special care when washing it. In order to make it feel as soft and smell as good as possible, I wash it using Snuggle® Ultra Blue Sparkle fabric conditioner and blue iris bliss® Snuggle Scent Boosters®. This not only keeps the fabric soft, but also provides laundry with 30 days of freshness.

However, when it comes to laundry stylish or creative usually aren’t things that come to mind. In fact, most people’s laundry rooms are places to store excess “stuff” and places that no one else ever sees. It is for this reason that I came up with the idea for this cute subway-style marquee sign for the laundry room.  This way, when you are doing load after load of your family’s laundry you have something cute to jazz up your space!

Making a Subway-Style Marquee Laundry Room Sign

I began by picking up some white wooden letters which spell out WASH and DRY. I also purchased a large ampersand as well as some glitter and a long piece of wood for the base.

You will want to begin by checking the spacing of the letters on the large piece of wood. This will ensure that all of the letters will fit correctly on the base. Now, make a mark where you will cut the wood. You need to do this on three pieces: the wash, the dry, and the ampersand.

Once you have cut the correctly sized pieces of wood, you will then want to paint the pieces. I chose a chalk grey color.

White wooden letters glued onto a light grey rectangular base. After all the base pieces have friend you will want to begin attaching the letters using a super glue-type of adhesive. Make sure you allow at least 12 hours for the glue to set. For letters such as the S, Y, and the ampersand you might need some smaller pieces of wood to hold the letter in place until it sets.

Wooden ampersand with silver glitter covering it.In the meantime, I decided to coat the ampersand in silver glitter. I coated the wooden letter in craft glue and then shook the glitter onto it.

After the glue and the glitter have dried, go ahead and mount it to the base also.

Finished Laundry Room Sign saying WASH & DRYAfter everything has set and dried, all you have left to do is display your new sign proudly in your laundry room!

  1. Is there ever enough glitter, I say no! I like to toss blankets in the dryer on fluff just before kids get out of the bath for that extra level of comfort! #client
