hitplayMissing out on activities in life because of hip or knee pain can be frustrating. I experienced this firsthand 10 years ago when I tore my ACL and MCL. I hated being left our of activities such as skiing, hiking, or even biking.

Although since then I’ve had a knee surgery to repair my knee, I do know that knee and hip problems run in my family, so it is likely something I will encounter again. In fact, my grandfather has had both knees replaced and my aunt had a hip replacement when she was in her 50s. My father also frequently has knee pain, although he hasn’t had a replacement — yet.

It hurts to see my family members not be able to participate in the things they love, all because of pain. My father used to be an avid softball player and my grandfather loves golf. Both are things that they’ve had to give up because of the pain and I know that wasn’t easy.

pictureafterrunningThe thought of being sidelined, having life put on pause, is a really scary reality for lots of Americans. These Americans, although they may put on a brace face or even grimace though the pain, wish that there were options that get them back in the game.

The Hit Play Initiative, sponsored by DePuy Synthis, helps to illustrate and bring awareness to what those who suffer from knee and hop pain are missing out on. It also encourages sufferers to have an open dialogue with their physicians to discuss treatment options, including replacement.

Discussing treatment options can be scary, especially when talking about surgery, but living your life on pause is also scary. This is why it is so important to embrace life without pain.

It is a comforting thought to know even if I have hip or knee problems in the future that there are options to help relieve the pain and continue to remain active. There is no need to sit things out just because of knee or hip pain. Instead, take charge.

Visit the Hit Play website at TimeToHitPlay.com and find a physician in your area who can discuss treatment options for hip and knee pain.

It’s time to live life to the fullest. It’s time to hit play.
