I know that Cinco de Mayo is over, but never fear, the soccer championships are coming up. This means that it is the perfect time to cheer on your favorite team while sipping on a sweet and spicy Michelada.

I plan on having some friends over to watch the games and I know Micheladas would be the perfect cocktail to serve. They are not only fun to drink, but are a great way to show off your drink-making creativity.

They key to making Micheladas is that the recipe always includes lime juice and hot sauce, and usually includes Clamato, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Although there are lots of variations to the drink, I decided to make a more traditional Michelada.

If you decide to make some of these savory drinks for your soccer viewing party, you will need a few ingredients:

  • Mexican lager beer
  • Clamato original cocktail
  • 3 – 4 splashes of hot sauce (for taste)
  • 2 splashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 splashes of soy sauce
  • Juice of 1 lime

Begin by filling a large glass approximately ¼ to ⅓ of the way with the Clamato cocktail juice. Add the splashes of hot sauce, lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce.

Fill the rest of the glass with cold beer. (I actually serve the drink with the bottle of beer in the glass.)

At this point you could simply garnish the rim with a slice of lime and be done, but since I’m making a loaded Michelada I took it one step further.

I used some cocktail shrimp and alternating between the shrimp and slices of lime I lined the rim of the glass. This makes it not only a drink but also a delicious appetizer as well!

You can find Clamato Tomato Cocktail in the juice section of your local Walmart. In the meantime, check out some other soccer championship and Micheladas inspiration in the Social Hub
