How To Induce A Period With Vitamin C

Before I begin, I want to emphasize that this post should not be taken as medical advice. It is simply a remedy that I tried. DO NOT try if you might be pregnant as it could potentially cause a miscarriage. This is simply to induce a period.

There is nothing more frustrating that irregular periods, or even worse, when you know that your period is coming but it just won’t start. Of course, you can always visit your doctor to induce a period by using medications, but sometimes taking drugs to regulate your period can lead to adverse effects such as fertility issues.

Over the years I’ve struggled with irregular periods Brough on by stress, illness, or even when I’m traveling. It can be frustrating, so I decided to try natural methods to induce a period. I’ve previously written about how to taking parsley can help induce a period. However, if that method doesn’t work for you, you can also try using Vitamin C to induce a period.

How to Use Vitamin C to Induce a Period

Before taking any supplements, you should talk to a doctor. I am speaking from my own personal advice and not from a medical perspective. Additionally, you will want to check to make sure that you aren’t pregnant as taking Vitamin C can also cause a miscarriage.

Large levels of Vitamin C work to induce a period because it simultaneously works to increase estrogen levels while decreasing progesterone levels. The lowered progesterone levels causes the uterine walls to break down, thus bringing on menstruation.

Some people have luck with taking eating large amounts of Vitamin C-rich fruits and vegetables (oranges, cranberries, parsley, kale, etc). However, a much easier way is to simply use Vitamin C as a supplement.

At your local health food store, pick up some Vitamin C supplements. It is recommended that you take 3,000 mg of Vitamin C daily, for three days. After three days your period should start.

I’ve tried this method in the past with minimal success. I had a lot of cramping but it ended up being the parsley that really jump-started my period though. Different people will have different results. If the Vitamin C method doesn’t work, try the parsley tea method I tried.

There are many things that can cause an irregular period, but if irregular periods continue you should definitely check with your doctor.

If you haven’t tried the parsley method here is a link to my past blog post:

Hi! Great article, and I hope you see this because I’d love your insight, but I’m slightly confused about vitamin c lowering progesterone? I was under the assumption that it increased it to lessen the effects of things like estrogen dominance? I have also heard that high dose vit c helps to improve adrenal health etc therefore improving low progesterone to trigger regular period again? Thanks again
