Getting Started With Influencer MarketingA lot changes in 10 years.

When I was in college I majored in public relations and advertising. As that time, even though the internet was already alive, well, and thriving, our main focus in class was still on television and print media.

Like I said, a lot has changed in those 10 years.

Now we live in an age where influencer marketing is now one of the main ways used to reach consumers.

So what exactly is “influencer marketing”? Influencer marketing is the art and science of engaging people who are influential online to share brand messaging with their audiences in the form of sponsored content.

Influencer marketing is the art and science of engaging people who are influential online to share brand messaging with their audiences in the form of sponsored content. We have seen this for years such as designers paying actresses to wear their dresses on the red carpet or brands paying celebrities to promote their products. However, with the rise of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram you don’t have to be a Hollywood celebrity to be an influencer. Enter bloggers.

Companies are now harnessing the influence power of bloggers. After all, wouldn’t you rather find out about diapers from the girl down the street with two children as opposed to a celebrity who may have never changed a diaper. Or would you be more inspired by a fellow mom who lost 50 pounds using a specific plan as opposed to a celebrity who has a personal chef and a trainer.

The Influencer Marketing for Dummies book sitting on a table with a pen and an iPhone.I recently had the opportunity to check out the new Influencer Marketing for Dummies book that was just released. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first received the book, but I was really pleased with the information I found in the book.

What is particularly nice is that this book is written as a reference and not necessarily something that to be read cover-to-cover. Instead it is designed to skip around and read the parts that are most interesting or relevant to you.

There are also icons such as “tip”, “reminder”, and “warning” which can help you identify special content or areas that you need to pay extra attention to.

Plus, this book covers absolutely everything you can think of for an influencer marketing campaign including planning campaigns, executing campaigns, and even reasons that campaigns fail.

“But I’m a blogger,” you say. “I participate in influencer campaigns, not run them!” This may be true, but as a blogger, knowing how these campaigns work, what the advertiser is looking for, and how to make the most out of the campaigns can be key to getting picked for the campaign.

If you are wanting to pick up a copy of this book for yourself you can check it out on Amazon. Additionally, now through February 5, 2016 you an enter for a chance to win a copy of the Influencer Marketing for Dummies book. All you have to do is enter through the form below!

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls and the content and opinions expressed here are all my own.
