Cwist Cabin Fever

One of the phrases that parents dread hearing is “I’m bored.” This phrase seems to be particularly prevalent during snow days, rainy days, and of course summer vacation. You as a parent or grandparent want the kids to find something to do, but at the same time you don’t want them just watching TV or playing video games. Instead, how about challenging them with creative art projects, science experiments, physical activities, and community service projects? This is where cwist comes in!

cwist, kids’ challenges with a twist – is a parent-educator collaboration that provides an interactive library of challenges that help kids make a healthy connection between the things they want and the effort it takes to get them.

The website motivates kids by setting goals to earn things that they ask for (such as staying up an hour later, a special trip, or a toy) and rewarding them for their accomplishments. Children make a wish and parents assign a challenge that the kid will love doing because it’s tailored to their interests and it’s fun.

Signing up for cwist is easy and free. All you need is an e-mail address or a Facebook account. From there you can explore cwists from different categories.

Getting started with cwist is easy too. All it takes is four steps and they also have a variety of informational videos that will get you on the right track.

What is also nice is that both the parents and the kids have their own log ins. This way, as a parent, you can choose what sort of activities you would like your child to do, see hints for parents in the individual cwists, and track their progress. Children will only see the cwist that they are supposed to complete and the steps needed to complete them.

Example Cwist

With a big winter storm supposed to be sweeping across the country this weekend, your kids may be suffering from cabin fever, so it is the perfect time to go and check out cwist!
