Hi there! I’m Rachel, a Pittsburgh-area widowed, single mom to two rambunctious boys — ages 3 and 5-years old. I’ve lived pretty much my whole life in Pittsburgh and I love it! This area not only features beautiful and scenic mountains, but also the excitement and culture of the city.
Who is Rachel?
Over 5 years ago I was working in the PR department of a health care organization. I was pregnant with my first child and I planned to be a stay at home mom. I started Third Stop on the Right as a way to not only stay connected and to have something to do.
This site has evolved into not only a resource for other moms, but also as an outlet for my creativity though craft and DIY projects. In particular, I love anything that sparkles and bonus points if it is pink.
I have a long history (OK, as long as it can be when you are 32) with writing! In fact, I have known I wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. I have worked at a newspaper, the sports department at Penn State, as a sports writer, in the public relations department of a large healthcare organization — and have written two books. I have even been featured in my local paper. However, being able to write this blog while staying home with my boys is the best job of all!
Meet the Family
Ethan (also known as Little E) is now 5 and in preschool. He’s also my mini me. Not only do people tell me that he looks like me, but he also has my personality. He’s sensitive, creative, articulate, and also crazy-stubborn sometimes. I love the fact that Ethan can sit with me and do some of our arts and crafts as well as our educational activities. Everyday with him is an adventure.
Reese (known as Reesie Peesie or Baby R) is 3-years-old and the baby of the family. Since he is my last child I am really savoring this time with him. Sometimes I wish I could just stop time. I love that he is already developing his own unique personality. He is a huge ham and just loves laughing — as well as making us laugh. It seems that every day he is learning something new.
About The Blog
When I started this blog as a way to stay connected and to occupy my time after leaving the workforce to have my son, I would never have dreamed of what it would become. Since I started the blog in 2012 I have had the opportunity to work with some terrific brands, visit some fantastic locations, and most importantly, have met people that I couldn’t imagine not having in my life. I truly am blessed.
I love partnering with agencies on sponsored posts, reviews, press trips and experiences for brands and companies that my family and I authentically use in our lives. In May 2013, I was honored to be recognized as one of Pittsburgh’s bloggers with an article in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
Why Third Stop on the Right?
I am frequently asked why I named my blog Third Stop on the Right. The truth is, the answer is pretty simple. The first house lived in after I got married was a small ranch house. When I gave directions to our house, we would tell people “It is the third ranch house on the right.” So, when I was trying to decide what to call the blog the first thing that came to mind was Third Stop on the Right.
The irony is that even though we have since moved, my next house was also the third house on the street — on the right!
Brand Ambassador and Influencer
My goal for this blog is to not just work with brands and organizations. I want to be a true partner in sharing information, inciting excitement and building real relationships. A few of my most popular partnerships in 2016 were with Little Remedies, Giant Eagle, Pfizer, GoodNites, and many more. Additionally, I had the opportunity to create party plans for brands such as all laundry detergent, Coca Cola, and Angry Birds. My audience really responds to my posts which feature crafts, recipes, or even party plans to help illustrate how brands will help enhance their lives. Please email me at email@example.com to discuss partnership opportunities!
