Movie night setup with popcorn balls, Coca-Cola bottles, M&M'S and the Hotel Transylvania 2 movie on a table.Little E loves movie night. We will make popcorn, cuddle up on the couch, and spend the evening enjoying each other’s company. We try to find movies that the boys will love but that also won’t be painful for us as parents (you know the kind).

The boys enjoyed Hotel Transylvania, so when Hotel Transylvania 2 came out, I knew it would be a winner. I was at Walmart the day the movie was released so I picked up one of the DVD combo packs. It looked perfect for movie night.

Nothing says “movie night” more than popcorn, M&M’S® Chocolate Candies, and a nice, cold Coca-Cola. That’s why I decided to make some M&M’S® popcorn balls.

Making M&M’S® Popcorn Balls

Orville Redenbacher's popcorn, paper straws, M&M's, and marshmallows on a table. These popcorn balls are really easy to make and only require 4 ingredients. Here’s what you will need:

  • paper straws
  • 3 Tbsp butter or margarine
  • 10 oz. package of marshmallows
  • 1 bag of Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater popcorn
  • 3.5 oz. canister of M&M’S® Chocolate Candies in the chocolate or peanut candy

In a large saucepan (on low) you will want to melt the butter. After the butter is melted, pour the entire package of marshmallows into the pot. Mix the butter and marshmallows together until completely melted.

While you are waiting for the marshmallows to melt, pop a bag of the Orville Redenbacher’s Movie Theater popcorn. After the marshmallows and butter have been completely melted, add the popcorn into the pot.

PRO TIP: If you pour the popcorn bag into the pot you may end up with popcorn kernels mixed in too. Instead, use the built-in pop-up popcorn bowl and simply drop in handfuls of popcorn until you have all you need.

Popcorn coated in marshmallow mixture for popcorn balls.Using a spoon, gently fold the marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. You will want to keep doing this until all of the popcorn is coated and sticky.

Pot of popcorn ready to have M&M's added.Next, you will want to pour in the M&M’S® Chocolate Candies. As you grab out large sections of the popcorn and roll it into balls the M&M’S® will also mix in. While forming the balls, you will want to form the ball around the paper straws. Otherwise, it could be difficult to get the straw in later.

Popcorn balls covered in bag and tied with bakers twine.Once you have finished the popcorn balls, cover the ball with a small baggie and tie with some baker’s twine to close.

Finished movie night spread with popcorn, Coca-Cola, M&M'S, Hotel Transylvania 2 movie, and popcorn balls.Popcorn balls on cake stand, with Coca-Cola bottles, M&M'S, and Hotel Transylvania 2 movie. Now all that is left is to serve the popcorn balls with a cold bottle of Coca-Cola as well as any leftover M&M’S® Chocolate Candies and popcorn. You are now ready for the perfect Hotel Transylvania 2 movie night!
