Pop Secret Popcorn Pillow Forts

When I was younger, my imagination often ran wild. My friends and I were constantly playing make believe, hide and seek, and pretty much any other made up game. Remember jumping from couch to chair or cushion and you couldn’t touch the floor because it was water or hot lava? That was so much fun! It is my hope to always encourage imaginative and creative play in my boys and Pop Secret popcorn recently reminded me of one of the best ways to do both – a pillow fort! And what are pillow forts amazing for? A movie night! I got to thinking about what essentials are necessary for a movie night and I thought I’d share.

Company – While every now and then, I enjoy watching a movie on my own though – though trust me it’s rare I’m by myself, I prefer watching movies with my family. I enjoy laughing with them and watching their faces as they watch storylines unfold, making memories, and possibly finding a new favorite. Snuggling in with my favorite people is the best way to have a movie night.

Attire – Comfy clothes are optimal for movie nights and my personal vote is pajamas! I like loose tops and cozy shorts or pants for myself and my family tends to agree. Slippers or fuzzy socks finish the ensemble. Something that’s roomy and relaxing makes it easier to be comfortable while you’re watching a movie. Nobody wants to be in itchy or uncomfortable clothes for an hour and a half or more.

Movies – To have a successful movie night, you need a movie or two! My favorite are usually romantic comedies or action films, but with three young boys in the house it usually ends up being kids movies we watch. (I honestly think I have seen Planes enough times to have it memorized!) That’s ok though because it keeps me young at heart! I recommend picking a few in case you want to watch a second movie or for whatever reason the first doesn’t keep your attention.

Snacks – I don’t know about you, but I just can’t make it through a movie without snacks! Popcorn is my goto movie night snack especially Pop Secret. It’s the closest I’ve found to movie theater popcorn which is delicious! It’s easy to make and always a crowd pleaser. I love popcorn the way it is, but there are so many delicious ways to change it up too. A favorite of mine is to drizzle in chocolate and peanut butter. It makes a sweet coating that satisfies even a strong sweet tooth. Or if I’m feeling more savory, I like to sprinkle in cheese and bacon bits. The possibilities are endless! Though I do have to say every now and then some of the popcorn might end up on the floor. I can’t help it, I see popcorn and I have to try to throw it up and catch it in my mouth. You’re never too old for that, right?

Pillow Fort – Pillow forts are the ultimate venue for a movie night. Gather sheets and plankets and of course, pillows! You can use your kitchen table and watch movies underneath with a tablet, but I find the best pillow forts are made with couches or love seats and their cushions. Pull the cushions down onto the floor and cover them with your blankets. Place chairs near by or use whatever’s near to drape sheets from the back over the couch to the chairs. This creates a cave you can hide in. Pillow forts are all about secrecy! The sheets should be propped up with the chairs so you can easily see the TV. I always required a password for entry into the fort – I suggest using Pop Secret!
