I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Mudderella. I received complimentary admission to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. #Mudderella2015 #IC

IMG_7627Over the past nine months I have been struggling with late-onset postpartum anxiety. For months I really struggled. I didn’t even know who I was anymore. I felt as if I’d never get back to the person I used to be.

One day I came to the realization that instead of this anxiety controlling me, I needed to control it. Sitting and crying wasn’t going to get me anywhere. I decided that I needed to get help. I am slowly making my way back to my former self.

Through my treatment, however, I found out that I have an excess of adrenaline which was helping to feed the anxiety. Basically, it means that I am always in “fight or flight” mode. My therapist suggested that I start an exercise regimen in order to help burn off that extra energy. Plus, it might help my self esteem in the process.

It was at about this time that I found out about Mudderella. It was almost like an answered prayer! Getting motivated to exercise is difficult but with a goal on the horizon its so much easier to get me into the exercising habit. Its also a day for me to push myself and prove to myself that this is something that I CAN do.

Mudderella itself is a 5 to 7 mile obstacle course. What I love is that not only is the event only for women, but it was also designed by women so you don’t have to worry about near-impossible obstacles. Plus, the emphasis is on finishing the course, not your time or your place. This allows women to finish with a sense of strength and empowerment.

I think us women tend to be extra hard on ourselves and judge ourselves much more harshly. Mudderella breaks down these insecurities and allows women to encourage not only the friends they are running with, but all of the women on the course. Plus, there is something about mud that makes it a great equalizer.

Right now Mudderella has nine United States and two Canadian events planned for 2015. You can check out the Mudderella website for all of the latest information. I am planning on participating in the Pittsburgh event which will take place in Slippery Rock. If you are planning on running at that event and don’t have a team yet, I would LOVE for you to join the Third Stop Divas!

If you are thinking that you would like to run Mudderella but don’t feel that you are in shape enough, there is an awesome 6-week training program that can help you to prepare for the event.

I can’t wait to see you there!
